Happy to take the criticism on the board. My intent was to be honest and direct, and that approach may not be for everyone. Hope you can still find value in the post, or elsewhere on the blog. Either way, appreciate you stopping by.

@Len:

You make a great point. Just like anything else, directing is an expertise in and of itself. I do think a director with Dan's skills has an enourmous advantage in today's market...as long as they have those core storytelling abilities.

I think Dan Gaud is a really smart guy, and my guess (and hope) is that his visual skills are just the icing on his story cake.

The story part seems to be the thing that bogs down most visual directors. They are great at single stunning images and set pieces... but often the human side of the equation needed for a compelling story aren't their strongsuit: desire, actions, revelations, antagonism. These are intangibles and only something visual when a person takes an action.

For people who are solely in the world of what you can see, story can easily elude them. That being said I hope this dude can overcome that.

[...] In part 2 we look at where Dan stands from Hollywood’s perspective. Both he and his project could have real potential, if he can make a couple adjustments to his overall plan, and avoid a few pitfalls. LEAP is a work in progress, and if Dan really wants to garner attention and launch his career, there’s a few steps that, in our opinion, he must take next. [...]
