Sneak Peek of Commercial Kings Local Commercial

On our new show Commercial Kings, the hysterical Youtube Sensations Rhett and Link travel the country, making local commercials for businesses in need.

We document the process, but they make the commercials, keeping every bit of the local flavor. AND “local commercial” flavor.

Here’s a sneak peek of a commercial Rhett and Link made for season one of Commercial Kings.

Featured Kickstarter Project: How Do You Write a Joe Schermann Song

Independent writer/director Gary King seems like one of nicest, most daring filmmakers we’ve never met–though we hope to change that someday.

He’s currently raising funds to finish, of all things, a MOVIE MUSICAL called How Do You Write a Joe Schermann Song.

Now, full disclosure…we’re not really fans of musicals, though we can respect the hard work and talent that goes into pulling off a big broadway show. And tons of time. And money. Loads of money.

So we can’t even imagine how impossible it is to shoot an independent movie musical. Even attempting it seems like madness…just the kind of spirit we love in a filmmaker! We pledged $25 to this ambitious project. You can do the same here.

That First Review of Your Movie

If you’ve ever put something creative into the world, you know what it feels like to wait for a verdict.

There’s dread. Nasuea. Lots of pacing…

That was us waiting to get our first review of our movie.

To make matters worse…

Our film Dying to do Letterman, which just premiered at Cinequest, was accepted off of a very early rough cut…which then went to press.

Knowing that the film getting reviewed was about two months WORSE than the film we would be playing gave us all a lot to fret about.

Fortunately…

When this first big review came from FilmSchoolRejects.com, written by the very funny Rob Hunter, he seemed more interested in our story than our rough edges (and luckily the review was just the first of many that have appeared since.)

We were so excited…

The google alert came in while we were at the Cinequest opening night party. We handed the email via phone to Steve Mazan, comedian and subject of Dying to do Letterman, and taped some of his reaction.

No doubt the review was a helpful contributing factor in our three sold out shows, all of which received standing ovations.

How to Hijack a Film Festival

Okay, well, maybe “hijack” is a bit harsh…we’d never want to take anything away from the other great filmmakers we’re playing along side. But, in an attempt to stand out amongst the other 173 films playing at the Cinequest Film Festival, we’ve made an elaborate plan involving hospital scrubs, flyers, interactive buttons, and lots of caffeine.

Have a look:

Our film, Dying to do Letterman, premieres tonight, Friday, March 4, at 7pm. If you’re in the Bay Area, please come and check it out. Get your tickets here!
