Hannah McFarland
She’s the heart and soul of our 3rd Caged episode, and her story continued in a major way during last week’s episode 4…
And yet I’ve never interviewed her, filmed with her or even had the pleasure of meeting her.
An Amazing Story
For anyone who hasn’t seen an episode of Caged (BTW, you can catch up on MTV.COM), Hannah’s life was tragically cut short 4 years ago and she was the girlfriend of cage fighter Daniel and sister of his best friend Dane, both of whom we follow on the show.
Hearing Hannah’s story and living with Daniel through the immense pressure leading up to his fight on the anniversary of her death, experiencing the electricity in the air that night of the fight, was one of the most amazing experiences in my life.
It is also the reason why I love unscripted story telling.
Our new show Caged officially premieres tonight at 10pm, 9 central on MTV.
We’ve blogged about how the show idea was brought to us and the process of getting the greenlight, and if you haven’t already, you can read all about the Caged cast and their backstories over at MTV, but for this post I’ll try and tell the story of how these wonderful people snuck inside my heart and have made a home there.
Sometimes, when you cry yourself to sleep, it’s because you’re happy.

The wide variety of compelling backstories have to overlap in a town that makes Friday Night Lights’ fictional Dillon look big…None of the shows characters are perfect protagonists…They’re all real characters that can be easily related to…Caged definitely doesn’t follow the obviously stale recipe of The Ultimate Fighter….While The Ultimate Fighter searches for the next Forrest Griffin, Caged gives you a real-life Tim Riggins.

Caged on MTV is our new TV show, an unscripted series following amateur mixed-martial arts fighters in small town Louisiana.
The show is very close to our hearts (as you can read in Joke’s very personal journal entry about Caged, and we believe it to be the finest TV we’ve made to date.

MTVs Caged: May I never Forget This Feeling by Joke Fincioen

We love this show. We feel it’s the very best television we’ve ever made.
Joke, my wife and business partner, shared this journal entry with me, and I was so moved I asked her if I could share it with you. After thinking about it for a while, she gave me the go ahead.
Far more than “just another TV show” for the two of us, CAGED represents everything we ever hoped to accomplish in unscripted television.
I hope her words will touch you as they did me.

Now that it broke on the front page of Variety, and The Hollywood Reporter, we can finally tell you that at Joke Productions, Inc. we’ve sold a show to MTV called CAGED.
